Lectures on the French Revolution

{"ID":5022088,"post_title":"Lectures on the French Revolution","title":"Lectures on the French Revolution","post_content":"Lectures on the French Revolution presents Lord Acton's searching interpretation of the upheaval that remade modern Europe. Moving from the collapse of the ancien r\u00e9gime through the ambitions and failures of revolutionary government, Acton treats the Revolution not as mere narrative spectacle but as a moral and political crisis. His prose is compressed, allusive, and judicial, situated within nineteenth-century liberal historiography yet marked by an unusually severe concern for conscience, authority, and the conditions of liberty. John Emerich Edward Dalberg Acton, Baron Acton (1834-1902), was among the most learned historians of his age, later Regius Professor of Modern History at Cambridge. A liberal Catholic, cosmopolitan aristocrat, and tireless student of archives, he was preoccupied by the ethical limits of power-an anxiety crystallized in his famous dictum that power tends to corrupt. These lectures reflect his lifelong effort to judge political events by exacting moral standards. This book is recommended to readers seeking more than a chronological account of 1789 and its aftermath. Acton offers a demanding, intellectually bracing study of revolution, liberty, and responsibility, valuable for historians, political theorists, and anyone interested in the moral drama of modern history.","image":"https:\/\/images.thalia.media\/00\/-\/5874a8eb01b64d35bb3a21a3b5ec852b\/lectures-on-the-french-revolution-taschenbuch-john-emerich-edward-dalberg-acton-baron-acton.jpeg","url":"https:\/\/www.vergleiche.ch\/product\/lectures-on-the-french-revolution\/","min_price":16.4,"low_price_merchant_id":2294,"deeplink":"https:\/\/www.awin1.com\/pclick.php?p=41004180320&a=401125&m=13971&pref1=9788027291229","ean":9788027291229,"brand":"Good Press"}
